Sharks, Chairs and Baths.
ch, th, and sh
If your kid needs more practice to get these solid in his mind you might like this twist. I started with sh because we were going to the beach and my bigger little guy loves sharks.
I went to discovery channel and printed off a shark here.
Next I started looking for pictures of words with the sh sound. Then I was inspired by this post at No Time for Flashcards. Popsicle sticks came into the equation and a few baby food jars.
This is what I ended up with…
I made a jar with a shark for sh, a chair for ch and a bath for th. For whatever reason, the word bath stuck better with my bigger little guy than any other reference. I started with the shark. I gave him 15 cards. 8 started with the sh sound. The other 7 started with ch or th sounds. I asked him to sort them. This was not his first exposure to these sounds. I like self-checking work, so I wrote the word on the bottom of the stick (in pencil so it would be easier to read). I didn’t time him at this point. This was all just about a little more practice. You could make this a game or try to have him beat his best time, but right now he is feeling a little pressured so I decided more laid back was better.

My daughter and I tried the rhyming game when we saw it off on No Time for Flash Cards too – it was a advanced for her ….so I like the pictures you added! We will have to try that.
