Halloween Themed STEAM activities for Kids of All Ages.

It is fall, ya’ll!  I love fall.  Either you are a fall, pumpkin spice, sweater type person or you are wrong not.  I most definitely am!    That is why Halloween STEM Activities make my heart go pitter-patter.

There are no words to express my deep appreciation for this season. The leaves begin to change colors and the wind doesn’t feel like a convection oven any longer.  We LOVE Halloween at my house.

Halloween Themed STEAM

When I was 7, my entire family attended a Halloween party. I was Cinderella and my brother was Yoda and even my Mom and Dad got dressed up as an Old Man and Old Woman.  This party stands out as one of my top ten memories. There was something magical about even the adults dressing up and having fun.

I want that type of magic for my family so we start decorating right after Labor Day!   We also start adding in fun Halloween activities to our learning.  Halloween and STEAM activities just go together (not sure what STEAM is ? click here), but it can be difficult to come up with Halloween STEM activities in the last minute.  The following are ideas that you can use with little prep for parties or make memories at home.

Finding Halloween STEM Activities for Kids

I think everyone can think of a mad scientist movie that comes on around Halloween (Young Frankenstein anyone?).   You don’t have to create a mad scientist lab in order to add in some Halloween themed STEAM (although it would be fun).  Keep in mind that STEAM includes anything under science, technology, engineering, art, and math.

I wanted to provide a jumping off point for great ideas for kids of all ages so these are all activities that we have done at our house. The following ideas range from super easy to activities that require a little planning.
Want a quick reference?  Grab my Halloween Activity eBook for free.  It includes all of my free Halloween printables and activities. Enter your name and email address and it will be sent directly to your inbox.

These activities will be a hit and some of these things would be great for Halloween parties as well. My kids even asked to revisit some of the activities, when they saw me writing this post.  For your convenience, this post contains affiliate links.  You can read my full disclosure here.

Sensational Spiders: Halloween Sensory Bin

All of my kids have loved sensory bins, I STILL don’t know how you keep the rice in the bin.  This is a Halloween sensory bin activity with STEM activities like graphing, sorting, and a little talk about spiders. The added creepy crawly factor of spiders gives it a Halloween vibe.

Spooky Spiders: Building a LED circuit

If you have an older kiddo that is interested in the more spooky side of Halloween you gotta make this Halloween spider craft.  Spiders with Light Up Eyes is a perfect combination of craft, Halloween decoration, and science experiment for kids. This project uses LED circuits and copper tape to make a great Halloween decoration with glowing eyes.  Combining spooky with electrical circuits!  Can’t get more fun than that. My guys loved this. This is also a jumping off point for a deeper discussion of electricity.

Halloween Math Puzzle:  Monster style Algebraic Thinking

Using algebraic thinking skills kids solve monster-themed equations.  This is great way to get those kids who say they hate math on board.

Spider Webs: Halloween Spider Craft

Kids love talking about spiders. Children’s literature and Spider-Man have given these 8-legged guys lots of exposure. Why wouldn’t kids be interested?  Spiders are amazing engineers and create intricate traps for their prey.  Kids get to make a spider web craft.
