Minecraft Crafts for Parties or Just for Fun.

Minecraft like a rockstarDo you have a Minecrafter?  I do.  My boys (11 &9)  are always Minecrafting or talking about Minecraft or watching videos about Minecraft.  I, on the other hand, find that watching them play makes me experience motion sickness.  Even though it isn’t an obsession I understand, I try to let them do their own thing as much as possible.

I have included affiliate links for your convenience.  You can read my full disclosure here.

My 9-year-old had a birthday recently and wanted a Minecraft themed party.  This is not something that you can just go to the party store and get.  You have to be creative.

I scoured Pinterest and found some things, but  I needed something to fit some specific criteria.  I needed a project that my kiddos could help with, that was inexpensive, and that we had the supplies on hand to do.   We decided on another tissue paper craft and I am so excited about how it turned out.

We made a couple of creepers for our mantle to help celebrate the day.  This is a very similar craft to our 4th of July craft this year, but of course, making it a little more Minecraft flavored.

Minecraft Art Project Tutorial

Supplies:

  • stiff paper to use as backing (we used chipboard sheets)
  • tissue paper of various shades of green and black
  • ruler
  • pencil
  • glue
  • scissors

How to:

  1. Decide on a creeper.  I looked on the web and found a picture of a creeper he was happy to use.
  2. Divide your backing into blocks.  This step I did after I drew in the face, but I would do it before next time.  We used 1 inch blocks, but that isn’t necessary (it would depend on your size paper as well) and a ruler.
  3. I colored in the squares that would be the black parts of the face.
  4. Fill the colored squares with black tissue paper.  If you want to read more about the technique you can skip over here real quick.
  5. Then we cut up the green tissue paper and I let them fill in as they wished.

I love how cute this turned out and now we look so festive (even though I couldn’t buy anything at the store)!
