Is Homeschooling Hard?
As homeschooling gains popularity I find that I am asked the same question repeatedly, is homeschooling hard?
The simple answer is yes, but that isn’t the end of the story.
If someone asked you, is parenting hard? You would probably say yes, but that wouldn’t mean you were telling the other person that you regret having kids or think they shouldn’t.
Is Homeschooling Hard? Yes and No.
Homeschooling is really an extension of parenting with all the highs and lows that other areas of parenting contain.
This is an ongoing series to give you some insight into our homeschool and to help answer the question, is homeschooling hard?
My longer answer is that yes and no. It can be frustrating and trying and exhausting. It can also be wonderful and uplifting and be so great that you think you are going to burst with joy after your kids reach an accomplishment.
Over the years I’ve finally figured out that my homeschool parent style matters in my decisions about curriculum. It has to be something I can execute.

Planning and Homeschool Organization.
Guys, the planning is intense! I was a classroom teacher for over a decade before starting to homeschool and well it was still a challenge. Now part of it had to do with my classroom teacher mindset and the other part was just stumbling at first. I’ve adapted lots of strategies and managed to get access to some great resources to learn to make it work better for me.

UPDATE: I’ve realized that sometimes you have to accept your own personality when being a homeschooling parent. I barely keep myself to a schedule and found the intense planning of all the subject overwhelming and got burned out.
Now I factor in my own personality when planning our days and year. It has made such a change in our homeschool, home life, and my relationship with my kids.
Homeschool Curriculum Choices
Guys, I was not prepared for the amount of materials. I have seen really impressive curriculum and really NOT impressive over my many years of homeschooling. Just when you think you have found what is working, your kid matures and you need something else.
UPDATE: I finally realized I was coming at this curriculum thing all wrong. Now I have a completely different approach and glad to report that I’m no longer suffering from homeschool burnout.
