College decision making can become overwhelming quickly. Part of that decision is dual enrollment.
Dual enrollment is a topic that comes up over and over in homeschool circles and it can get heated quickly. My kids can actually dual enroll for free, but I’m apprehensive to put young kids into an adult learning environment.
I recently found out about Study.com CLEP test prep product and wanted to share it with some of you about to start getting ready for college. I received this product for free and was compensated for my time in reviewing this product. Giveaway below.
CLEP Exams – The Basics
CLEP® exams are a great way for students to gain credit for work they have previously mastered. Study.com comes to your rescue in helping you prepare for these exams. As a person who has spent their career in education, the courses and preparation offered by this site impressed me.
Let me back up and explain a little more about what the CLEP program does. The College Level Examination Program (CLEP) offers over 30 exams for college
credit.
CLEP exams are Prior-Learning Assessments (PLAs), meaning they test your subject matter in a particular subject to determine your proficiency. Passing these exams proves your mastery and grants real college credit, just as though you had passed the corresponding course at your college or university. What does that all mean?
How the CLEP Exam could help your student.
Say you have a student that fell in love with writing while in high school and went on to devour everything related to writing. She may have even written a few novels or comic books.
Rather than spend time (and money) taking English 101 which is usually focused on writing, her time (and money) would be better spent in exploring more literature or other forms of writing. If she takes the CLEP exam and scores well, she will be awarded credit for English 101.
This is an exam and while some can argue that the SAT and/or ACT are not knowledge-based, the CLEP exam is. That means that you don’t want to go in without at least a little prep in mind. If your child devoured Biology at 16, but doesn’t feel like take a general biology class will add to his knowledge then CLEP can be great.
The problem is that there might be a lapse between when your student took the course and when they take the CLEP exam. Luckily, Study.com’s CLEP test prep product is an affordable option to help prepare for CLEP exams.

Don’t want to feel like a drill sergeant?
They create personalized study plans. Designed so the student can have a plan tailored to their needs that helps them stay on track. It uses the CLEP exam date to automatically create a personalized week by week schedule. Then it can be as simple as a daily or weekly check-in with your student.
My Experience
I was a biology professor before becoming a stay-at-home mom. The first thing after choosing a course, I was asked to take a placement test. I could have taken additional placements test after the initial one to help create an even more personalized experience.
You can create a personalized plan and begin to go through the course. The course has reading, visuals, videos, questions, worksheets, and quizzes. The program includes practice tests to help you prepare for types of questions you will see on the CLEP exam itself.
The content was thorough but divided into digestible chunks to help make it feel manageable. There is attention to detail, but students can focus their time in areas of weakness and don’t necessarily need to spend a great deal of time on each and every lesson.
I would highly suggest this program for anyone considering CLEP exams and looking for a CLEP test prep option.
