Meiosis Escape Room

Description

Have you considered using learning stations or even a meiosis escape room with your students? This is a meiosis activity that is ideal for reviewing before an exam.

In this scenario, students are in a lab studying the role that stress has on meiosis and NEED a vacation. They must prove to their boss that they deserve a break. The only way is to solve an encrypted message he left on their desk and a series of clues. Can they escape the fate of the stressful lab?

This is a 4 part escape room that can be adapted for your students into anything from seat work to a full blown escape room experience. Depending on your time and your classes.

4 tasks:

1. Students are asked to sort clues into one of two categories: meiosis I or meiosis II
2. Students are given a list of social media posts from DNA moving through meiosis. They are asked to identify what phase by the post.
3. Students are provided an informational text on synapsis and crossing over and asked to answer questions using the provided text. Students are provided an additional text where they are asked to identify the stages of meiosis that are pictured.
4. Students use the answers in the previous tasks to break the code and solve the encrypted message.
