Biogeochemical Cycles & Climate Change Escape Room

Description

Have you considered using learning stations or even a carbon cycle escape room with your students? This is an editable biogeochemical cycle and climate change activity that is ideal for reviewing before an exam.

Editable task cards and alternative answer sheets are included to substitute any of the activities included.

In this scenario, students are asked to travel to a remote location to study the impact that disruptions in the carbon cycle are having on the island. Unfortunately, there seems to be a mystery at hand. Once there they are told that the only way to get off the island is to solve an encrypted message with a series of clues. Can they escape the island?

This is a 4 part escape room that can be adapted for your students into anything from seat work to a full blown escape room experience. Depending on your time and your classes.

4 tasks:

1. Students are asked to sort clues into one of two categories: carbon or oxygen cycle.
2. Students are given a list of social media posts from a carbon atom moving through the carbon cycle. They are asked to put these in order by the post.
3. Students are provided a list of questions on climate change to answer using all available resources.
4. Students use the answers in the previous tasks to break the code and solve the encrypted message.
