Teaching Feelings in a Fun and Engaging Way.
Let’s talk a little more about Social Emotional Intelligence. As a certified parent and life coach, I think that promoting SEI is a gift to future generations. I work with my kids to sit with feelings, name them, validate them, and learn from them. This can be HARD work because some feelings feel uncomfortable.
Feelings like anger, sadness, frustration, disappointment are emotions that people DON’T line up to feel. They are part of the human experience and learning more about them is empowering. Giving them them a social emotional learning tool to process instead of avoid feelings.
Dealing with uncomfortable feelings
For instance, if we are playing a game and my kiddo makes a mistake. They may feel frustrated, disappointed, and embarrassed (to name a few emotions). Those emotions may make them want to escape and resist because they don’t feel comfortable.
I have learned that the more we label, the easier these scenarios become. If it just the two of us, I might say “it looks like you are frustrated and maybe even a little embarrassed, does that sound right?” They may need more support and that is where tools like LuvBug Learning can be lifesavers.
