Halloween STEM Activities
There is no better time to combine a holiday with science than Halloween. Halloween STEM Activities are a natural extension for both. These are 5 creepy crawly and oh so spooky Halloween activities that will get your kids learning without every realizing it.
If you are following along in our 31 MORE days of Halloween Resources then this will be Days 4 – 8!

Dissolving Candy Lab
The first resource I’m sharing is from The Trendy Science Teacher and it is a lab on dissolving candy corn. I can’t think of anything better to do as a follow up to Halloween. You could also compare different candies. I’m sure your local dentists will thank you for having the kids bring in candy for science class.
You can grab this lab here.

Oozing Goo Science Demonstration
This is actually a version of elephant toothpaste. This freebie from Lynorra Stary has more than just a simple recipe included.
Originally designed as a high school demonstration, this is safe and easy enough to be used in middle school, or even elementary school. Simply modify how in-depth you explain the science behind the experiment. Perform the demonstration simply as a “mystery science day” with no explanations needed!
Included:
-List of materials
-Step-by-step instructions
-Detailed explanation of the science behind the demonstration. Suitable for high school Chemistry.

Mad Scientists’ Scientific Method
This is a really cute way to apply the concepts of the scientific method/inquiry cycle. Students are provided a scenario (2 are included) and asked to either fill in the blank or answer questions. Bonus suggestion: have students graph the data. Includes mad scientists and witches so a great addition to lessons in October, but you could also use it other times of the year.
Create a Haunted House
This one is so fun! Kids will research and create Halloween decorations to make a class haunted house. The learning objectives include properties of matter and changes. Suggestions to make: Oobleck, Dry-ice Bubbles, Exploding Ghosts, and Oozing Pumpkins. The author suggests getting your hands on dry ice and black lights, tp bring everything together.

Halloween Genotype and Phenotype Worksheet.
If your genetics unit will correspond to October (and even if it doesn’t) this is a perfect addition to your unit. This comes from Elly Thorsen’s store on TPT.
This is a sample of a paid product. The larger product is the Genotype and Phenotype Punnett Square Worksheets with Halloween Monsters. In that resource, a two-page worksheet has been differentiated in three different ways to meet the needs of all of your students. This sample is from the first page of Worksheet A.
I hope you enjoy these Halloween STEM Activities and make sure to check out the other ideas in the 31 MORE Days of Halloween Resources
