Dimensions Math. Making the Switch.
Our Experience with this Homeschool Math Choice.
If you’ve been searching high and low for a curriculum that not only builds on what your kid already knows but also presents math in a way that’s actually interesting, then Dimensions Math might just be the answer you’ve been looking for. I’m reviewing level 4 of the Dimension Math curriculum and using it with a very energetic and artsy performer who is 9. I am being compensated for this review, but as always these are my honest opinions.

Homeschool Math is ALL ABOUT FIT
Finding a good math curriculum is about a good fit and that includes for your kiddo and for you. I find the Dimension Math curriculum to be just that for our family. Now that I am balancing teaching science and homeschooling teens and an elementary aged kiddo, I require a more open and go type of curriculum. This has exactly what I need to make sure that the lessons are easy for me to teach and make sense to my young theater kid.
The curriculum comes with LOTS of materials to help you help your kids develop their math skills

What is Singapore Math?
Last year she went to classes for math, so I’ve really enjoyed the clear scope and sequence of the product so I could see (and fill) any gaps. We have used Primary Mathematics in the past. Dimensions Math is the next evolution. During development, the team at Singapore Math, Inc. wanted to create something better, more comprehensive, and more beautiful and I think they nailed it.
If you are new to Singapore math, let’s talk a little more about what this means. Singapore math emphasizes a focused and coherent approach, where topics are introduced in a logical sequence and build upon each other. It ensures that students develop a strong foundation before moving to more complex concepts. It uses what we know about child development and taking concrete to the abstract and applies that to mathematics. This is a mastery-based learning curriculum that uses problem solving strategies and mental math skills to full develop a full understanding before moving a new concept.
What is in Dimensions Math?
Each chapter opens with a captivating scenario that immediately sparks your kiddo’s curiosity and sets the stage for new concepts. This not only grabs their attention but also provides an opportunity for you to review essential skills and knowledge. The full color textbook is a winner for my kiddo who loves bold and bright colors.
Each lesson starts with clear definitions and then dives into detailed explanations. They take the time to build on what your child already knows, so it’s a smooth transition from one concept to the next.

And here’s the best part: they use visual aids, diagrams, and real-life examples to make sure your kid really gets it. It really helps to reinforce material for my more visual learner. There is also a list of additional manipulatives you may want to add to your lessons. If you ever get stuck on a concept, you can reach out in their Facebook group for ideas and hacks to help you and your kiddo.
Math Practice Makes Perfect!
In the past, I’ve found a lack of practice to be a problem in some curriculums. I think Dimensions Math strikes a good balance. It provides plenty of practice exercises and problem-solving activities to reinforce what they’ve learned without overwhelming them with work. I like that it builds confidence before challenges. The curriculum starts with easier problems and gradually ramps up the difficulty, so your child can build confidence along the way.

But it’s not just mindless drills. Dimensions Math also throws in real-world applications to show your child how math is actually useful in everyday life. We aren’t talking about trucks with 100 watermelons in this curriculum. This helps them see the practical side of math and appreciate its relevance. Plus, it makes math way more interesting when they can connect it to something real. This has helped my kiddo go into our math lessons with more enthusiasm which is a win-win.
Give Dimensions Math a try, and watch your kid’s math skills soar to new heights. With this curriculum, learning math becomes an adventure that both you and your child can enjoy together. Happy homeschooling!
