How You Can Protect Your Time and Sanity on the Computer!

conquer computer chaos

I have a confession. I have a time suck problem.  This one is big and it is scary and I am about to look the beast in the eyes and take it down.  I am feeling so much power I might go drink some raw eggs and go for a run.  Or I might be feeling so overwhelmed I’m considering going back to bed.  No, it is the first one.  My confessions is that I have a computer chaos problem.

I said it and I feel free.  It’s like I was given a sock. My lips are actually curving into a smile (for those of us with the RBF this is a big deal).  My biggest beef with technology (right now) is that I feel like my computer likes to hide my files in a dubious attempt to keep itself from working too hard.  I mean this is real man against machine stuff 😉

Computer Work

Maybe it is a little about me.

Ok. Maybe I realize that this is yet again my tedious lack of natural organizational skills.  As a whole, I have a workable system to keep my computer files organized.  The downloads are killing me.  I am going to fix that and do a little maintenance at the same time.  The best part will be in January when this is all nice and neat.

Here is the deal. December is busy and the kids are crazy and the gifts and the food, and, and, and.  I also know that we can’t make time we have to find time.;;

My sanity has to be a priority and sense December is a time to finish up projects, I want to go out with a bang and also prep myself for the new year.  We will call this a pre-new years resolution.  If we want to be successful (I do and I assume you do to), we have to create a platform for success.

achieve success

Are you preparing for success or failure?

Are you creating the stage that will support your success?  Have you made sure that your goals are in your priorities.  I know for me, I want to be able to spend time with my family and grow this site to become a support place for homeschoolers, teachers, and students. I have to do all of that in the 24 hours I have been given (just like you).

That means that I don’t need to spend 5, 10, or even 15 minutes here and there looking for files.  I want to set the stage so that my limited time is not wasted on searching for the  file I need (a certain rubric has become a real pain) I need right now.  Do you smell what I am stepping in?

time management

Hurry up and get unorganized.

It always starts out innocent.  You are in a hurry so you don’t name your download and you just pop it into the downloads file for ease.  Then the downloads file begins to look like it is housing national secrets because nothing fits your naming convention and there are a ton of files with weird letters and numbers that don’t make any sense.

There is also the beginning of a new project. You have a file that doesn’t really have a specific home so you give it a temporary location and then that temporary place gets full of temporary files and now you have a mess, because that is where all of the stuff that you want for this lesson or project must be.

Let’s just stop and get this under control.  I want us to work together starting on December 5 and working through December 11th to create a clutter free computer file system.   I am talking about digging deep and conquering the computer chaos.

planning

Remember a Goal without a Plan is a Dream.

You have stuck with me this long and I want you to conquer your computer chaos, too.  You can hold me accountable and I will hold you accountable. By December 11th,  we will stop throwing things into a folder on the desktop and be ready to get that time back and more.  This is going to protect your time and sanity on the computer.

Conquer the Computer Chaos Challenge.

This is a  FREE 7-day active challenge people.   30 minutes each day for 7 days to create a system that will completely change our life in front of our computer screen.  The challenge will take about 10 minutes to read/watch and then around 20 minutes (which you can divide into shorter segments) to implement.

I will be hosting a Facebook group and will send out weekly check ins following the end of the daily portion for 3 weeks. My plan is that not only will the system be in place, but that my files will be all clean and pretty by January 5, 2017.

Are you ready? Challenge members will get emails, access to the private facebook group, and more.
