My goal is to help and encourage people who are interested in creating an enriching educational experience that will help prepare their student for college success. My focus is on middle school and high school science where I feel there has to be a gentle shift from a very relaxed learning approach to a more purposeful approach. That doesn’t mean to stop all interest led learning. That means that we have to harness the passion your student has and help them understand the dedication involved in true mastery.
Prepare your student to be ready for a world that is changing. Career changing and fluidity are becoming so important that we need to help students embrace common threads of achievement that are valued in many professions. Reading, writing, math skills, basic knowledge of history and government, basic understanding of science, analytical abilities, rich vocabulary, ability to communicate, and persistence are all things that are important for growth and career longevity in our society.
As a professional educator, homeschooler, and parent I often see students struggle with creating meaning for each step of their journey. Sometimes the purpose of what you are doing is to get to the next step. If you need to get to the second floor of the building and you are at the bottom of the stairs (no elevator), you don’t think you can magically jump or fly over a flight of stairs. You expect to climb the stairs (sometimes two at a time) to get to the top. Each step didn’t feel meaningful, but it was. It got you one step closer to your goal. Academics and career plans are like that as well.
I am here to encourage you that you can help prepare your student for college and career success. There might be times they are going to be unhappy or fearful… those are the times they are growing the most. The same goes for you. Enjoy the journey, but be mindful of the destination. Hard work is the bridge between goals and reality.
Imagine. Reach. Thrive.
