This is a fun activity that really teaches lots of skills, but since today is Math Monday our focus will be on MONEY. My kids eat a snack every afternoon. Starting this week my first grader will be purchasing his snack from me. He will have $1 in change to make his purchases for the week. He will get to keep any leftover funds. There will be healthy choices and a couple of treats. At our house we like to encourage healthy habits, so the pricing doesn’t reflect what you see in the store. The pricing is more of a reflection of health costs, but that is another post.

You could give them a menu or put tags on the snack. That is up to you. I like to put tags on the food. You can download some pricing tags here or make your own. I do think it is important to keep a running tab of how much they spend all week and on what. This is a great chance to use math skills. Some of the great math skills this activity uses are counting coins, addition and subtraction. You can download my snack attack tally sheet here.
