I had a plan earlier this week to get ahead on cleaning, freezer meals, and lesson plans. I am a to-do list kinda girl. I woke up to a very sick child that needed to go to the doctor. No problem. I got this. I am a seasoned mother at this point. I make the appointment. We get ready and head to the van. The van is D-E-A-D. Nothing. Happening. There. Insert sigh and panic. The appointment is 20 minutes away. In a real crisis, I am great. A mini-crisis and I have a mini-meltdown. For about 5 minutes, I was sure the world was going to reverse its rotation and that nothing would ever get done and that some cosmic force must hate me. After 5 minutes was over, I called AAA and got a boost and off to the local auto parts store for a new battery. I also got the appointment pushed back.
After about 15 minutes, the world was righted. I was waiting for AAA. We got to have a relaxed breakfast, instead of a granola bar in the car. We also got to design and build marble ramps and test our skills. We got to spend some time together which my 6 year old desperately needed, as much or more than the trip to the doctor. I also got the most important thing done. Something that wasn’t on my list, a little one on one time with my baby.
Sometimes life gets in the way, but sometimes life points you the right way. Today was one of those days.
